The wind was the protagonist of fifth stage of Tour de France. Crashes and waste of time were the main risks but Ivan Basso and Liquigas-Cannondale team-mates stand the test. "We knew s the wind would be the biggest threat. From this morning, we had thought about how to conduct the race to help me avoid risks. The whole stage was tense for fear of losing the best positions. In a flat stage with wind the risk of forming echelons is high. The team worked that plan well and everything went smoothly. We worked hard for no result, but know that we got past another important obstacle."
